Camp Memories
Lions Club of Manning River

On the second weekend of November each year the Manning River Lions run a camp for children with special needs and their families. The camp has been running for many years and is called Camp Memories.  The camp gives the families that camping experience while not having to worry about meals and activities as well as to mix with other families in similar circumstances. The weekend starts on Friday afternoon with dinner and a movie and continues thru Saturday to conclusion on Sunday after lunch and a visit from Santa.

We cater for 72 children and as many adults as necessary. The children are broken into 6 groups and get to enjoy various activities throughout the weekend.  These activities include Archery, Camel Rides, Water Slide, Craft, Swimming, Sand Art, Disco, Movie, Drumming, Pottery and a visit from the Emergency Services.

So...How can you volunteer.....Unfortunately all this doesn't happen without many hours of work....Our hands on work commences about 10  days before the camp to ease the workload on our members, we start  with some shelving and storage and we will get the showers up and running early and numerous small tasks.  Tent work happens on the weekend before (2-3 Nov,)  the more hands the better.  As the days pass all the jobs are put behind us and then it's the camp weekend and  again it's all hands on deck.  At the conclusion is the dreaded clean up and put everything in storage for another year.

You are welcome to camp onsite from Wednesday 30th October till Wednesday 13th November.....You will need to be self contained.....

If you are interested please don't hesitate to contact us......Pre booking is essential and you will need to apply for a working with children check.
